Feeding shrimp without fouling the tank
How to balance grazing, protein, and restraint in a shrimp aquarium.
Overfeeding is one of the fastest ways to create instability in a shrimp tank. Shrimp already graze on biofilm, algae, plant surfaces, and micro-organic matter, so prepared foods should support the colony rather than replace natural grazing entirely.
Good habits
- Feed small amounts and remove leftovers when necessary.
- Rotate complete foods with occasional protein or mineral support rather than overdoing a single product.
- Watch how quickly food disappears and adjust to colony size, not habit.
- Remember that very young tanks often need patience more than extra food.
