How to acclimate shrimp safely

A calm, low-stress acclimation approach for new arrivals.

Acclimation should reduce stress, not drag it out indefinitely. Start by dimming lights, checking the receiving tank temperature, and preparing a calm workspace. Floating sealed bags briefly can help match temperature, and careful drip acclimation can help where source and destination water differ significantly.

Simple approach

  • Open the bag only when you are ready to move quickly and calmly.
  • Drip acclimate steadily rather than rushing large additions of tank water.
  • Avoid pouring transport water into the aquarium if you can net or transfer livestock more cleanly.
  • Do not feed immediately after arrival; let shrimp settle first.

Watch behaviour over the next 24 hours. Initial shyness is normal, but constant darting, heavy losses, or failed moults suggest the bigger issue is usually parameter mismatch or tank instability, not acclimation length alone.
